Just another day in the life of a blessed child

I'm leaving. On a jet plane.

I booked my ticket to Switzerland last Tuesday. I leave on the 21st of April, stop by in Laos for three weeks on the way and get to Switzerland in mid May. It's a one way ticket. I put down the deposit on Wednesday and paid off the balance today. There is no turning back now.

It's funny how I started to feel emotional almost instantly after I booked the ticket. I stood at the bus stop afterwards half in shock and stared into nothing with big suprised eyes. I went for a walk in the evening, the same way I take when I go for runs, along the river towards the city. The sun set behind the bridge and shed a golden light over it. The water was deep blue like velvet and a million of city lights looked like every building had been covered in fairy lights. It was all a lot more beautiful than it usually is, and it usually is beautiful. It was only a couple of hours after I booked my ticket and already I looked at everything with sentimental good-bye eyes.

Beautiful Bettina. I love that you can express what you are feeling. Laos is an interesting choice for a layover. I think you should have interesting adventures there.

I am confused. ONE WAY TICKET TO RIDE? OK, let's just say you are returning home to stay. School is done and a new life begins...You are returning to where your heart lives. I feel the pain of your seperation but I also know that it will pass. One day at a time kid, One day at a time. Enjoy the ride!
Happy St. Patrick's Day.

I haven't been reading your blog long enough to know why it's a one way ticket. I hope you find love and happiness in Switzerland. I hear it's absolutely beautiful there.

Have fun in Laos. Any particular reasons for laying over there?

Hey sweety,
for some reason I know exactly how you feel ;-)
I know how hard and weird the idea of leaving Australia for good sounds. Although you can always go back, considering you're an Australian, mate! hehehehehehe... I wish you luck with this new step in your life. I'm sure you'll embrace the experience and do it just fine!

Good for you Betts. You need a complete change and this is just one chapter in the book coming to an end.
How exciting for you.
The excitement will overplay the melancholy soon. You will always be a little sad to leave somewhere where you have been happy and had good times ... but it doesn't stop us from moving forward.

Sera- Thank you. I am looking forward to all kinds of adventures... Laos is just the first little bit of it.

Blitheroo- How cute that you are excited. And you can betcha there will be some stories coming your way.

Mystic- One day at a time is exactely what I'm doing. And I figure there's really no better way to do it. Plus, I'm free to leave again whenever I want.

Callie- Switzerland is absolutely beautiful, you're right. It's stunning. And why Laos? I've been wanting to go there for a long time. Apparently the scenery is amazing and the people some of the kindest you will meet. And it's still pretty untouched.

Paulinha- Linda linda linda linda! My heart just did a little jump when I saw who dropped by here! And yeah, for some reason I know why for some reason you know how I feel... And if I need someone to cry to in my first months of confusion back home, I know who to call. Miss you like crazy babe.

Aggs- I'm more excited since I booked the ticket, and also more sad. I'm up to my ears in a mix of different feelings... And yes, you're right, saying goodbye always hurts, but change is necessary and renewing.

A Catalan philosopher (whose name I can't remember) I once read said that is the best way to leave anything, with appreciation.
I can't explain that, but it feels right.

Drop us a line.

Hi there sweetheart. It's just me and my long overdue little comments again ;)

Have to admit I was caught slightly off guard by your news. I was under the impression you were staying put -what with your having just become an Aussie and all...

I can completely relate to how you feel. It wasn't long ago I was going through the exact same thing -leaving Brussels, my friends & life there behind.

I still miss everyone a lot and I won't lie to you, it is quite an adjustment. But it also is an interesting new adventure.

One that I'm sure you'll face up to with your "built-in" optimism and good humour, go through unscathed and come out of feeling all the stronger for having made it.

Drop me a line should you feel you wanna chat with someone who's been there;)
