Nothing whatsoever

There is a passage in the Majjhima-nikaya in which someone approached the Buddha and asked him whether he could summarize his teachings in one phrase, and if so, what it would be. The Buddha replied that he could, and he said "Sabbe dhamma nalam abhinivesaya": Nothing whatsoever should be clung to.

My dear friends,
I'm alive and well. I have arrived in Luang Prabang, where I will spend my last few days in Laos, before flying into Bangkok and eventually to Europe from there. Laos has been amazing and I have completely fallen in love with the country- I'm already thinking about coming back. I will write more soon. I hope you're all well.

Much love, B.

Mystic- Everything is fine here- thank you for thinking of me. The tragedy in Burma has of course saddened me, and it does feel even more real because I'm so close. I hope and pray that the people get the aid they need as soon as possible.

Will post some more pictures soon and hopefully tell a couple of travel stories.

Zuper Zee- Thank you- there's more to come!

Imogen- I'm not- but I would sure love to be one! Thanks for the compliment.

Aggs- Laos definitely is nothing less than amazing- I can't wait to come back. Hope you're well too!

I'm completely the opposite.
I cling to everything.
You could toss me in the dryer
with anti-cling and I'd still
stick to everything.
Crazy glue.
Magnetic.
Nothing whatsoever should be clung to.
But what about memories? Love?
Nothing lasts forever, theoretically,
so why can't I enjoy
everything while I have it?
I went through my shit phase.
It left me feeling empty.
I'd make a poor buddhist,
being too full of myself
and the accumulated bits
of whom I'd like to be.
I'll give it all back one day.
I'll give it all back,
apparently, whether
I want to or not.

Going back, again?
Didn't You listen to Budda?

"Nothing whatsoever should be clung to."

:-D

Very wise - especially in that area of the world, and right now!
